What Happens When We Move Into Truly Trusting In The Lord
Set aside the Christian cliche and step into what scripture says
This year I have been reading through Proverbs every month. And in the last couple of months, I have been reading Proverbs with different Bible translations.
I have found it interesting how fresh revelation can come just from tweaking the words a little bit for understanding or for more direct translation. And while some might feel the need to say there is only one translation to read, I believe there is an opportunity missed in this.
Today, I was so impacted by Proverbs 3:5 in The Passion Translation, that I thought I would share it with you and how it connects with my life today.
Trust in the Lord Completely
“Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make.”
My wife and I have been talking a lot about focusing on what God is calling us into and giving up the things that might seem like a good idea.
So often, we pray to God and ask for this direction or for his input and do not hear anything. So, we decide that we will take our next steps because there are some ‘good ideas’ out there.
And then, after we have invested time, energy, and sometimes money, we find that God’s favor or grace wasn’t on that good idea. And had not simply waited on the God to give us an answer, we might not have wasted that time, energy, and money.
Now, I know what you might be thinking, sometimes no answer is the answer. And you are right. But, I was brought up in a tradition where God speaks through circumstances and the phrase, “God helps those who help themselves” get’s thrown around like gospel.
Yet, sometimes, if we were to rely on God to give us a clear ‘yes’ or a clear ‘no’ we would not be spending time and energy on things that were not in his will.
This verse reminded me of this. It affirms our conversations recently. And I feel very impacted to make some cuts in the activities that I have been doing because God never said ‘yes’ to these activities.
What might be something you need to stop doing because you never really received a ‘yes’ from the Lord?

After I did not renew my “concealed carry” permit because I confronted myself on the question of trusting & advocating for Christ, I had to learn that a counter-view is that “I carry for the protection of others, not myself.”
I really only get into the “trust” question when friends ask why I let my permit lapse & I provide a truthful answer - based largely. On the Scripture you cited.
