Coffee with Jesus, the Bible, and Experiencing Jesus
The Bible is and essential part of meeting with Jesus, but it isn't everything
“We can learn a lot about Jesus in the scriptures. We can read about His life, ministry, teachings, miracles, and the cross. But without the Holy Spirit etching onto our hearts the revelation of Jesus, we will simply grow in knowledge and not relationship. We will become more informed about Him instead of actually being in relationship with Him.” - Mark Freeland Miller, His House, His Presence
My early experiences with Jesus were one-offs. They would come and go at what seemed like random times. Sometimes, in moments of deep need. Sometimes in powerful worship times.
Yet, they weren’t something that I could step into regularly. And for a long time, I believed this was an everyday Christian life.
But it isn’t. Well, it shouldn’t be anyway.
When I started my coffee with Jesus practice, I realized that Jesus and his presence were waiting to manifest directly in my life.
It wasn’t until I started to understand who the Holy Spirit is and started inviting both the Holy Spirit and Jesus into my times that I started to experience Jesus in tangible ways for my life.
Once that happened, everything changed.
The Bible and Experiencing Jesus
There seems to be this divide in the church today that says the Bible is the only way to know Jesus. And any other revelation or experience is not from God.
And on the other side of the continuum of thought, there are those who believe that we are receiving new revelation outside of the constraints of the Bible that should take priority.
I have news for you: It’s not one or the other; it is purely both.
If there is anything that I have learned over the last few years, it is the importance of reading the Word of God and learning that experiencing the manifest presence of Jesus goes hand-in-hand.
Without the word of God, we will doubt our experiences with Jesus. And without experiences with Jesus, we are simply studying a historical figure and movement.
These two realities are essential for the Christian life.
A Vision of the Future for the Church
In the early days of my faith, I was trained and loved to share my faith with those who didn’t know Jesus. Evangelism was a privilege and a beautiful expression of my young faith.
The stories of people who turned their lives over to Jesus are still as powerful to me today as they were when they entered the Kingdom of Heaven. And now, God is calling me to something new.
Recently, in an evening of worship at our house church, Jesus came to me in a vision. He sat down with me at a table and said he was pleased with how I love sharing him with people.
But he had a new calling for me. One that was going to be essential for the age that we live in and that I have the heart and skills to make a reality.
In this vision, he said he wants me to re-introduce him to people. To create things and spaces where people could experience him in tangible ways.
This was when I knew Coffee with Jesus was an important part of this new call on my life. And as such, I look forward to serving all who read this publication and connect with us to connect with Jesus.
Coffee with Jesus, the Bible, and the Manifest Presence of God
Coffee with Jesus will focus on the Word of God in that it will help inform you on what to expect when you encounter and experience Jesus.
That is why we will read scripture, pray, and ask Jesus to step into our lives. These activations are intended to help create space for you to experience Jesus confidently and know that you can meet with him regularly.
As we read the Word of God, we will get to know Jesus more; he loves this. But we will also invite him into our times so he can speak to us about what we are reading.
There will be times of deep conviction, healing, repentance, and rejoicing. It will create a new depth to your relationship with God, experiencing Jesus and walking in the power of the Holy Spirit.
This is our goal with the Coffee with Jesus publication.
